Who We Are

At the heart of Clay Day is the desire to equitably support the intuitive and creative connection children feel when they pick up a ball of unformed clay. Through lessons, workshops, and events, Clay Day introduces children to the art of ceramics—its methods, processes, tools, techniques, and language—in order to help them access the imaginative and creative parts of themselves in a safe and supportive environment. The art of ceramics transforms children into makers of their own world. Clay Day encourages children to see themselves as artists and teaches them to recognize the power creative expression has in their daily lives and in their futures.

Why We Do It

The art of clay is ancient. The impact and use of ceramics is everywhere around us in our daily lives. It is an art form that captures the most beautiful and inspiring of impulses in humans and it is an art for all abilities that activates all the senses! But it can be expensive, time-consuming, intimidating, and messy! For these reasons ceramics is largely inaccessible to children until they reach the high school or college classroom. At Clay Day we believe that the earlier children have FREE access to ceramics, the more likely they are to see creative expression as an integral part of their identity through every stage of their education. Clay Day believes that a creative life can change a child’s whole life.
